Girl's & Women's Football
WPFC offers girls of all ages, from 8 year olds through to Over 35 women the opportunity to play the game and enjoy the social elements it brings with it too!
Girls Only Football at WPFC has been growing steadily over the past few years which has been very exciting! In the past, WPFC girls-only teams did not start playing in NSFA’s Girls Competition until the G12 age group. However, in 2012 a young team was formed for the G09 age group, made up primarily of girls who had previously played in the mixed comp and with some girls giving the sport a go for the first time. The team had a fantastic season, played with huge spirit and pride and developed well in their football skills too.
In 2014 WPFC opted to enter this G11s team into the new NSFA initiative for girls football development, Diamond League. WPFC is a proud participating club in Diamond League, the exciting development pathway for girls that provides the opportunity to keen young female players to enjoy their football, develop their skills under professional coaches, and play with and against equally keen players.
In 2017, WPFC joined up with Wahroonga FC for the Diamond League squads, and put together 3 very formidable teams across the G11, G12 and G14 age groups.
Equally as exciting is the surge in numbers in even younger female age groups each year. In 2017, the club entered 3 teams in the G09 age group which is truly a testament to the fact that the beautiful game is extending across and being enjoyed more and more on the girls’ side!
Our older girls & women have represented WPFC proudly over the years as well. Our G18As recently won their competition and went on to Champion of Champions. In 2017, our Womens Over 35 Division 2 team won their division. In 2018, our G14B team were runners up in their division.
WPFC is committed to bringing new girls to football and to the club. As part of this initiative we are having a 'Come n' Try' day for new female junior players from 9am on Sunday 18 February 2018 at Norman Griffiths Oval. We encourage existing members to spread the word and ask them to being new female juniors along at this time. Interested players can pre-register their interest by emailing Abby Denham-McQuillen, our Junior Girls Coordinator, at firstname.lastname@example.org. No previous football experience is necessary - the session will be focused on junior girls who have not played before and are keen to try football before committing to competition football.
