Norman Griffiths Oval Artificial Pitch - UPDATE
At the Ku-ring-gai Council meeting last night (Tues. 18th Feb. 2020), Councillors voted unanimously in support of an amended motion to carry out further investigations in relation to installation of synthetic grass at Norman Griffiths Oval.
The Notice of Motion from Councillors Cedric Spencer and Jeff Pettett in December 2019 was resolved not to proceed with the proposal for a synthetic surface at Rofe Park (Mimosa Oval), and instead to undertake investigative work to reassess the feasibility and costings of a synthetic pitch installation on Norman Griffiths Oval for a 1% AEP flood event. Cr. Callum Clarke then proposed an amendment to the motion - to carry out further investigations in relation to installation of synthetic grass Norman Griffiths Oval.
In brief, these investigations include:
further high level costing to build the field in a manner that handles either a 1% or 2% flood level
a risk and hazard assessment (pre and post development) for the key areas
estimate costs for creek stabilisation works (where required)
Thanks to the WPFC Executive and club Members who attended the Council meeting last night; having a physical presence there from our committee definitely had a positive impact. The letters of support we have obtained from other community groups, associations, schools and businesses were mentioned and these showed the broad community support for the project.
The club is highly appreciative of the continued work being carried out by Ku-ring-gai Councillors and Council staff, working through the complex issues involved to bring a superior synthetic pitch to our community.
WPFC would like to acknowledge Cr. Spencer and Cr. Pettett for tabling the motion at the meeting to investigative installing a synthetic pitch on Norman Griffiths Oval and thank Cr. Clarke for proposing the amended motion to assess costings to meet 2% AEP flood event as well as a 1% AEP flood event.
