2018 will see the Club build on our prior year strategies for the development of our junior footballers.

In particular, we will focus on the correct allocation of players to teams according to ability, the provision of improved team coaching through our Coach Education Programs and opportunities for specialised coaching through the Technical Training Program.

The key outcomes which the Club seeks to achieve and provide in 2018 are:

- a “soft grading” process for our Under 7 players;

- full grading opportunities for players in the U8 – U13 age groups;

- establishing two graded teams in each age group;

- supporting “play with requests” outside the graded team selections; and

- establishing our teams so the skill range among players in a team is within an appropriate band.

Aligned with these goals on team allocations, the Club is continuing to develop a strong focus on grassroots coach education for our volunteer coaches and, with that, better skill development for all our junior players. Coach Education Programs, fully funded by the Club, are offered to our coaches both in pre-season and during the season.

Please also ensure that juniors are registered in advance of TAGS to ensure that we can be organised with exercises and can plan numbers of teams.

Please refer to our Training and Playing Policy here. Participants are required to check in at the registration desk on grading day, the desk will be open from 30 minutes before your session commences. Please ensure that you arrive in plenty of time to register. Attending TAGS is an important aspect of the team allocation process. We therefore strongly encourage all players to attend both sessions. We appreciate however that this is not possible for everybody. In those circumstances, you should certainly make every effort to attend at least one of the nominated sessions for your age group. Most importantly, if you will be absent from one of the nominated sessions, we ask that notify the Age Manager (via the Club website) in advance. With almost 350 players in the U8 - U13 age groups, this allows us to plan and conduct the sessions more effectively, making sure everybody is considered.

U6s & U7s will have a separate Welcome to Football Day on the morning of Sunday 11 March at Norman Griffiths Oval from 9.00 am to 10.30 am for Under 6 & Under 7s. There will be no grading for these teams playing in these age groups. The day will enable teams to be finalised, players and parents to meet, and gear to be purchased. We will also be providing juniors and parents with information on the format and structure of small-sided football. More information on times will be provided directly to players.

Our sponsors at Tummurra Community Bank are running a donation drive to help not-for-profit organisation 'Their Beautiful Game' collect and distribute as many football boots, goalie gloves, shin pads and soccer balls as possible. The bank branches will be providing the funding to distribute these donations.

All donations will be distributed to underprivileged adults and children around the world (including our own backyard in Australia) enabling them to play football and help to ease the effects of poverty.

Helping is easy: Bring your unwanted football gear as outlined above (not clothing) to our TAGS day on 18 February 2018 (or into either Turramurra or Lindfield Community Bank branch) and leave them in the collection bins provided.

We ask that all equipment including boots need to be in good condition, please!

It's fun, non competitive and a good opportunity to make new friends or catch up with your school mates. Duration of U6/U7 games is 30 mins and played at ovals in local suburbs.

ACTIVE KIDS REBATE ($100 per child)

Commencing 31 January 2018, the NSW Government will allocate $207 million over four years to establish Active Kids. This is a program to help NSW families meet the cost of getting their kids into sport and active fitness and recreation activities.

Who is eligible to claim the voucher?

Every child (4.5 – 18 years old) enrolled in school from Kindergarten to Year 12 will be eligible for an Active Kids Voucher. This includes those who are home-schooled or enrolled in secondary school education at TAFE NSW.

NOTE: You can only claim the rebate ONCE even if you play more than one sport in 2018.

What do you need to do to claim the rebate?

You will need to be registered with Services NSW in order to claim the rebate, which will be applied at the time of registration. We recommend you register with Services NSW now so as to receive your voucher promptly and avoid delays when the club opens registrations.

NSFA has recently made a significant announcement for youth footballers in the U12 to U16 age groups with the launch of the Super League competition in 2018, to replace what was previously Division 1.

WPFC will be hosting a 2018 Super League Info Night at the WPFC Clubhouse (Norman Griffiths Oval) next Thursday, 23 November at 7:45pm. This announcement however is much more than a name change for the top Division. It is a change of strategy to a Development League giving aspiring footballers the highest level of opportunity, challenge and competition. It brings with it minimum mandatory coaching standards for participating Clubs and teams.

The standards mirror the commitments required by Clubs participating in the highly successful Diamond League competition for girls.

Cam is also the Director of COERVER Coaching for the Sydney North Shore region.

The WPFC Coaches & Managers evening and Annual General Meeting is now set for 20 September from 7pm.

We have a few compliance issues we need to finalise before the AGM and the additional week will hopefully give coaches & managers a little more time to collect shirts and collate their gear bags for return. We have some fabulous news on the WPFC 60th Anniversary Dinner to be held on the Friday evening of 8 September at the Pymble Golf Club. Sydney FC players Tom Heward-Belle and Pat Flottmann - both of whom are WPFC juniors - will both be attending.

WPFC is proud to have 3 juniors (the 3rd being Sebastian Ryall) in the current Sydney FC squad. We look forward to Tom and Pat reflecting on their WPFC playing days, hear their perspectives on life as professional footballers, and on their hopes for the upcoming A-League season. Tom and Pat will also be drawing the lucky door prize (4 x Sydney FC general admission tickets) and they will also draw the winner of the Sydney FC shirt signed by all players for which raffle tickets were sold at Presentation Day last Saturday.

What an absolute spectacle of a game against Lindfield today. 5 yellow cards, 2 split foreheads demanding ER attention, 1 outstanding penalty save from club veteran and legend @clemburgman, 200 passionate spectators comprising of the WP faithful and an absolutely class performance from the WP lads who came from 1-0 behind to beat Lindfield 2-1 and win the NSFA premiership for the 3rd time in a row.

Thank you to everyone who came down and supported the boys it was a massive win for the club!

WPFC Over 45 Division 1’s said farewell to a terrific Club stalwart, football tragic, long time team mate and very good friend.

Adrian Tall (Tool) has retired from the game he loves, playing for the Club he loves.

The club received sad news yesterday that former Premier League and All Age player Harley Ullrich passed away from brain cancer on 11 June.

Harley was also the coach/manager of the All Age Division 4/5 team for a number of years and played a fantastic volunteer role mentoring our younger all age players and helping them to effectively transition from junior to senior football.

There was no more passionate footballer and loyal coach and teammate than Harley and his legacy has touched many of his former teammates. Here is a fitting tribute from former team captain Lawrence Holmes:

One of West Pymble’s most passionate has unfortunately lost his hardest fought battle. My first friend and coach at West Pymble, Harley instilled the spirit and passion for the greatest sport on earth in me and I can say quite confidently is the only reason I continued and shared this passion with so many more. His passion for the sport was only equalled by the love and support he gave to all ‘his boys,’ creating a comradery unparalleled to anything I've ever been a part of. While he fought as hard as he always did it just goes to show you, not all battles can be won, everything is not always on your side and even the best sometimes just can't get the outcome they so badly deserve. Truly in a division of his own Harley taught me, even in his final days, what it means to truly fight for what you believe in, never give up and showed me, and all those that knew him, what true strength really looks like. I know I speak for all those that had the pleasure to be on his good side when I say this passionate, loving and strong willed character will be missed tremendously.

Our Premier League squad is making their inaugural appearance in the FFA Cup tonight.

They are playing State League team Dulwich Hill starting at 7.30pm at Fraser Park Oval (100 Marrickville Road, Marrickville).

The surface is artificial so the match will definitely be on. If you can make it please come along to support Coach Greg Fuchs and the team as they make West Pymble FC history.

Unfortunately the 2017 Welcome to Football Day, due to be held this Saturday at St Ives Showground, has been cancelled.

Due to the persistent rain in the region during the past few weeks, as well as the forecast for more rain before the event this weekend, we would be unable to ensure the commencement of a high quality event.

The softness of the ground has thus far prevented the council from being able to cut the grass due to potential damage to the playing surface, and the large amount of event participants would also put the field at risk of heavy damage.

The grassroots coaching course scheduled to coincide with Welcome to Football Day will still be running and has instead been located to North Turramurra Recreation Area from 8am to 11am. Registrations can still be made here

We are looking for new players to join our Over 35s and Over 45s teams. No experience necessary!

These are social competitions bringing fun and football together. Whilst there is an official competition and results table in Dvision 2 and lower, the emphasis in these divisions is competitive fun.

However, the Division 1 teams are very competitive and focused. If that’s your thing then join a high level competition.

As a result we have grown into a large football mad family and are a great bunch of blokes. Most of us have kids playing Saturday mornings, who then become the core of our sideline supporters in the afternoons.

WPFC Youth Technical Director Cam Jones will be running our Monday night skills sessions this year at Norman Griffiths Oval. The sessions will run on Monday evenings with the first session scheduled to kick off in less than 2 weeks on 6 March 2017.

The sessions offer WPFC juniors an optional additional session on top of normal team training. The WPFC Football Sub-Committee strongly recommend that our juniors consider attending these sessions to fast-track their football skills development.

Session Objectives

The 2017 WPFC Technical Skills programme will focus in on the basics of the game within a fun environment at the 'Discovery' level and work closely on the four core skills of the game - First Touch, Running with the Ball, 1v1, and Striking the Ball - within the 'Skill Acquisition Phase'. Mixing the very best of the FFA approach to player development with other globally recognised technical skills approaches. Pressing, Marking, Intercepting, and Tackling will also be addressed from a defensive view point - along with the constants of positioning and communicating. The club is investigating a proposal for the installation of an artificial pitch on Norman Griffiths Oval.

Benefits of the project include: - Increase in usage of the oval of approximately 2.5 times current usage during the winter season - Usage of the oval during the off-season (currently we are limited to 4 pre-season days only during the off-season as pre-season dates used for grading) - Hosting of matches at alternate times including Friday nights and Saturday nights - Hosting of miniroos matches for juniors - Increased summer football competition or training use of the oval - Significantly increased access to the oval for pre-season training and training during the season - Significantly more competition matches - Greater use of the canteen and clubhouse including social events

Total cost for the 4 sessions will be $48 though participants who were enrolled in either or both of Terms 1 or 2 will receive a credit for the sessions they missed due to cancellations from ground closures by entering a promo code which is explained below.

MiniRoos Football is modified football for players aged 5 – 11 years old, played on small sided fields to provide a fun and engaged introduction to football.

MiniRoos football is designed to be more inclusive, fun and engaging for children to learn new skills whilst playing in a team based environment.

The first 'coach-the-coaches' course is on this Tuesday 15 March at Norman Griffiths Oval from 6.30pm - 8.00pm with former Northern Spirit and English Premier League professional footballer Cam Jones delivering a course focussed on technical skill development.

We are looking for new players to join our Over 35s and Over 45s teams. No experience necessary!

These are social competitions bringing fun and football together. Whilst there is an official competition and results table in Dvision 2 and lower, the emphasis in these divisions is competitive fun.

However, the Division 1 teams are very competitive and focused. If that’s your thing then join a high level competition.

As a result we have grown into a large football mad family and are a great bunch of blokes. Most of us have kids playing Saturday mornings, who then become the core of our sideline supporters in the afternoons.

A further date, 28 February 2016, has also been reserved in the event that either of the above sessions is cancelled due to weather. We will shortly update the Calendar tab on the Club website to display these times. Please also ensure that juniors are registered in advance of TAGS to ensure that we can be organised with exercises and can plan numbers of teams. Participants are required to check in at the registration desk on grading day, the desk will be open from 30 minutes before your session commences. Please ensure that you arrive in plenty of time to register. Attending TAGS is an important aspect of the team allocation process. We therefore strongly encourage all players to attend both sessions. We appreciate however that this is not possible for everybody. In those circumstances, you should certainly make every effort to attend at least one of the nominated sessions for your age group. Most importantly, if you will be absent from one of the nominated sessions, we ask that notify the Age Manager (via the Club website) in advance. With almost 350 players in the U7 - U13 age groups, this allows us to plan and conduct the sessions more effectively, making sure everybody is considered.

FAQ's

Do I need to be registered before the Team Allocation and Grading Sessions? Yes, you must be registered before Thursday, 11 February to participate in TAGS 2016. Registration Fees must be paid no later than 28 February 2016.When will I find out about my team for 2015? The Team Allocation and Grading Sessions commence on 14 February are expected to be concluded by 1 March. We anticipate that the team allocations for 2016 will be released by the Age Managers by 17 March. However this date is subject to all players having paid their Registration Fees in full. Even if you have attended TAGS, you cannot be allocated to a team until you have paid your Registration Fees. Following announcement of the team allocations, each team will be required to nominate a Coach and Manager. The Coach and Manager will liaise with the Age Manager to secure training venues and timeslots.Where do I find out more important info about TAGS 2015? Please also watch-out for further emails on TAGS 2015 and contact your Age Manager if you have specific queries or concerns.When does the season commence? The first round of matches commences on Saturday, 2 April. Miniroos starts Sat 2 April 2016. TAGS 2016 marks the start of our on-field activities for the season.
